Cherished Moments - DT Reveal

It's time for our 3rd and final challenge for the month at Sketches in Thyme, and this one is an Open Challenge! Now, how does an open challenge work, you ask? It's easy to play along! Just link up a new creation you've made for this challenge using ANY SKETCH, try out a sketch from a favorite blog or maybe create your own. As long as you use a sketch you can enter the challenge!!  I used this wonderful sketch from Pagemaps for my layout.

Frosted Designs is also having there next challenge BBQ/Picnic/Outdoor games.  Our favorite outdoor game and fun thing to do in the summer is play in the pool.  The pic is of my kids and I last summer in the pool.  I loved the bright colors of our swimsuits, plus when I think of summer I think bright and cheery, so I used fun bright colored papers to make my layout.

Cherish the Moment - Card - DT Reveal

I have a wedding this Saturday, and I have been on this card kick for a little while, so I thought what a fun thing to give someone for their wedding, a beautiful handmade card.  I used the wonderful cutter file from RSMobely Designs (file RM00142) that is full of fun flowers.  I altered a bit from the original design, I layered them with an extra smaller layer and distressed the paper more, but the flower shapes, center, and the leaves are all from the cutter file.

I found this cut little tutorial over at Frosted Designs for a fun little card, and on that card are the cute little hearts to represent the bride and groom.  On her card they are larger and the center of attention of the card, but i so wanted to use that idea for my wedding card.  So I added the little accent of the hearts to the side of the words.  They are super easy to make, just punch or cut hearts in white (2) and black (1), cut the sides of one of the white hearts off to make the tuxedo vest shape.  I then used a black sharpie marker and added dots and a little bow tie, then used pearls down the center of the white heart for the bride heart.  Put them together and poof, a cute little bride and groom.

The bride's colors are yellow, so that is the reason for the yellow flower and the touch of yellow flowing in the card.  All the papers in this card are cream or black cardstock, I then just used ink and stamps to create the newspaper look, the lace trim on the tag, and the yellow in the flower.  I then just tucked some tulle and a couple of pearl pins behind the flower, and done!!

For the inside of the card I wrote a lovely sentiment and repeated the bride and groom hearts, but on a larger scale.

Cherish - The Paper Trail GDT Kit Reveal - Challenge #6

The Trail Makers are having a month long crop and I get to host the 6th challenge as their GDT for the month of May.  So head on over to Trail Makers and play along!!

For this challenge you need to use paint.  You can paint an item, splatter paint on your paper, use paint and water to distress your papers, or what ever you can think of as long as it includes paint!!  I love to use paint on my projects as it adds so much dimension and extra softness to the look of the project.

For my example I used glimmer glam paint in brown to paint the word cherish (wonderful Dusty Attic piece from the May The Paper Trail Kit).  I then also used pink acrylic paint to make the splotches on the brown background paper to match the pink splotches on the Little Sprout blue swirl paper from the Trail Makers Store.  I then also used water and a light brown acrylic paint to wet distress the reddish/pink background paper from the The Paper Trail May Kit.

The pic is of my son one day when we were playing on the playground.  The Little Sprout paper line (borders at the bottom, blue swirl paper, and paper paper the heart butterflies are punch from) are all from The Paper Trail Store were just perfect for this picture.

Link up Love Party With K Andrew - Brandon 6 Months

I have just found this great idea at K Andrews site at Getting Cricky, it is a link up party.  We get to see other people's blogs and get out there and meet some great people who love to craft just like me!!

So we are supposed to post a favorite project of our, and this is one I did not so long ago, but have not posted it as of yet.  This pic is of my son at age 6 months.  I got this great paper and looking at it I saw that it looked so much like his little outfit.  I then got this great sketch from Swirlydoo, and it took off from there.  I hand drew and cut the vines, but then I scanned them and turned them into SVG files for my Cricut.  I also revamped the flowers by using ink and mist and adding a fun center to each of them.

Thank you Card - DT Reveal

I made a fun thank you card for my son's Pre K teacher.  She was been so wonderful this past year. You can really tell when a teacher loves what he/she does, and my son's teacher is one of those great teachers out there!!  So here is a huge thank you to all of those teachers out there..........THANK YOU!!

I find that using a 6x6 size is easier for me, since I am so used to working in a 12x12 format.  I find cards hard for me for the unusual shape, but working in a 6x6 is a fit for me!!

Clear it Out has a wonderful challenge out there right now to color.  So the challenge for the next two weeks is to show your projects using any coloring mediums.  I am not a huge stamper, but I have so many, so I broke out this really cute flower stamp I have and tried my hand at coloring it in.  I have never done this before, and it was so easy.  I do not have any special markers (copic or the like), so I used my Bic marks a lot markers and they worked fine.

Frosted Designs also has a challenge going on right now to used trim or ribbon.  I used a pink ribbon to run across the bottom of the card, and then I added a little bow at the corner of the "thank you" tag.  I am horrible at bows, but I think my little bow here turned out pretty good!!

I went for a simple, sweet, clean look of the card, because I wanted the idea of "thank you" to stand out.

For mom - Sketches4All DT Challenge

In this challenge you are to make a card, layout, tag, or other papercraft project where you include banners.  The banners can be any type you wish, just add a banner to your project somehow!!  Please upload your project to the Sketches4All site and the winner gets a fun little RAK from me!!  You may enter as many times as you like!!

I wanted to make a card for my mum this mother's Day.  I am not a card maker, it is not my area, but I am starting to really like working in a 6x6 or 5x5 format for cards, it is like making a mini page without a picture!!

On this card I loved the paper so much that I let it shine, but just adding a few small light touches to brighten up the paper.  I wrapped yarn around the strip and tied a simple knot to hold it together.  I then layered little words about my mum on top of the words "dedicated to the world best mom" then added the punched butterfly to accent it off. I also love the idea of sewing the buttons onto a page, it really finishes it off and gives it a really clean neat appearance.

You Make Me Smile - Trail Makers GDT/Sketch Inspriations Reveal

This week The Paper Trail is sponsoring the the sketch challenge site Sketch Inspirations.  So head on over to Sketch Inspirations and play along for a chance to win a great kit from The Paper Trail.

Using this great sketch from Sketch Inspirations I created this fun layout of my friend and her family just before they went to church one Sunday.  The papers are  the Nikki Sivils Rainy Day paper from The Paper Trail Store.  The are so cute and fun they just went perfect with these family photos.

I altered the sketch a bit, I pulled the three pictures down to the bottom of the page and added a longer scalloped border across the entire bottom of the layout.  I then used all the flower and circle embellishments on the sketch as my guide for the kite, clouds, and buttons I added to my layout.

Friend of Mine - DT Reveal

The Paper Trail Kit Reveal - Challenge #1
I was lucky enough to be a guest designer for The Paper Trail for the Month of May.  For this month there are many challenges to enter and the first one is a color challenge!!  For this fun challenge at The (Paper) Trail Makers it was to use these colors:

They go perfect with the May kit which includes the new Nikki Sivils Rain Line, they are such sweet and adorable pages.  The colors screamed to me fun and fresh, so I used pictures of my friend's son and his first dog Goldie.  They were playing around in the backyard and Dustin tried to ride him like a horse, so cute!!

Using a sketch from Pagemaps I created the fun layout above.  I love to stitch on my layouts, it adds such a wonderful look to the page.  I also love those Nikki Sivils buttons, so cute!!

I also love to use layers of borders.  I used a regular punch scallop border on the bottom, then a strip of Nikki Sivils umbrella paper, then and orange/yellow cardstock to cut the final border trim at the top using my Cricut and a cutter file.

I used these wonderful cutter files are from RS Mobley Designs (File # RM00145) to cut the border, I then took yarn and wove it through the holes in the cut border.

This layout was also created for the challenge at Clear it Out.  The challenge going on right now is all about ribbon/fibers.  I love to try and find fun uses for the fibers I have, so I love the idea of weaving the yarn through the border.

Duck - The Paper Trail May Kit Reveal - GDT

I was chosen to be the guest designer for the month of May at The Paper Trail.  This kit is full of wonderful lines from Fancy Pants, Nikki Sivils, and Dusty Attic just to name a few.  They are full of such wonderful distressing and rich looking colors, they just go perfect with these sweet photos!

These pics are of my friend's son when he was about 2 years old.  He loved playing with the ducks, chasing him all around, until they ducks turned on him and started to chase him, hence the title "DUCK and run".

I did not have the perfect chipboard for my title, so I painted the letters with acrylic paint to it would match (they started out big bright bright multicolored chipboard pieces).  All the edges of the papers are inked with a light brown chalk ink to give it that soft and rustic look.
